High friction surfacing, also referred to as anti-skid surfacing, plays a crucial role in enhancing road safety by providing excellent skid resistance to road surfaces, especially in wet and cold weather conditions. It effectively reduces braking distances and increases visual awareness for road users, thus minimising the risk of accidents.

The application of high friction surfacing involves three main methods: hot, cold, and MMA materials, with the selection of the method depending on the type of surface, its intended use, and the required drying time.

Besides road applications, anti-skid surfacing is also used to identify walkways and increase skid resistance during colder months.
